Rakuten Canada operates a cashback shopping service: retailers pay it a commission on qualifying purchases, and it shares part of that commission with members. That is the business model described on Rakuten Canada's own website. It does not mean every purchase qualifies or every tracking claim will be approved.

We would compare the offer on each purchase rather than choose Rakuten automatically. If a competing retailer is cheaper before rewards, an uncertain rebate may not close the gap.
How the shopping process works
You start at Rakuten Canada, select a participating merchant and follow its shopping link. The purchase takes place with the retailer. Rakuten's role is to attribute eligible purchases and credit the reward under the offer's conditions.
Before choosing an offer, compare it with the other options on our store pages. Consider the final purchase price and the conditions alongside the advertised cashback. A reward should improve a purchase you already want to make.
When does Rakuten Canada pay?
Rakuten's Canadian FAQ describes quarterly payments and a $5.01 qualifying cash-back minimum; signup and referral bonus rewards do not count toward that threshold. A balance below the minimum carries forward. Its how-it-works page lists Interac e-Transfer, PayPal and cheque as payment options.
Check the method and payment details in your account. A reward appearing in your account is not the same event as receiving a payment, so keep the purchase date, posting date and payout schedule separate when checking a delay.
Check the offer before paying
Read the store-specific exceptions before checkout. In particular, look for restrictions on the product category, subscription purchases, new versus existing customers, coupon use, and gift cards. Keep a copy of the offer and your order confirmation so you can explain a missing reward precisely.
Rakuten.ca and Rakuten.com have separate accounts and balances, according to the Canadian FAQ. Confirm that you are using the intended service and that the merchant ships to your address. A retailer appearing in the Canadian portal is not by itself a promise of Canadian delivery.

A cashback service should not be described as having no privacy tradeoff. Choose the website, app or browser extension based on the access and convenience you are comfortable with. Use a unique password and open account or payment settings from the official site rather than an unexpected message.
When might another portal be a better fit?
