To compare Expedia and Booking.com cashback in Canada, price the same stay first: hotel, room, dates, guests, taxes, fees and cancellation terms. Then compare the portal reward that actually covers that booking. There is no permanent winner because prices, eligible booking types and portal offers change.

TopCashback Expedia Canada: important restrictions
Use the Expedia Canada listing, rather than assuming the separate Expedia.com offer applies. Its terms exclude cruises and air, hotel and activities packages, region or currency changes, and coupon codes not shown on TopCashback. Start with an empty cart.
The listing says an order initially tracks at $0, with the correct reward added once the retailer approves it; the listing says this may take up to 12 weeks. It excludes taxes and other fees from the reward calculation, converts Canadian-dollar spending and cashback to US dollars, and requires missing-cashback claims within 100 days of the order. Read the live listing again before booking.
Those conditions make currency and booking type part of the comparison. Do not change the site's region or currency after the portal click just to match another quote. Instead, calculate the equivalent cost separately, including any conversion charges that apply to your payment method.
Compare the same room and conditions
Record the total you would actually pay at each site. Check whether breakfast, parking, resort fees and cancellation flexibility differ. A cheaper prepaid room and a refundable room are not identical products, even at the same hotel.

Do not assume a loyalty program or promotion described on a US website is available to your Canadian account. Verify the actual member price and included benefits at checkout. Hotels.com can be another price comparison, but its portal listing and conditions need a separate check.
A calculation that avoids overvaluing cashback
Suppose one eligible room costs $800 and offers $30 cashback, while an equivalent room costs $780 and offers $5. If both rewards are approved, the effective costs would be $770 and $775. The first option is $5 cheaper after rewards, even though you must initially pay $20 more.
If the first reward is declined, that option costs $800. Decide whether the cancellation terms and price still suit you without the expected rebate. These are hypothetical amounts, not current Expedia or Booking.com offers.
Use the eligible subtotal for percentage calculations, not automatically the tax-inclusive total. Keep cash rewards separate from any loyalty points; count those only at a value you expect to use.
When either booking site is the better choice
Choose the site with the better combination of final price, cancellation terms and an eligible reward for the booking you want. A larger headline rate on an excluded package is worth nothing for that purchase. A room with a lower rate can still cost less overall.
Open the live offer from our store pages and read that provider's terms. An Expedia restriction is not evidence of Booking.com's rules, and conditions from one portal should not be applied to another. If an offer is ambiguous, clarify it with the provider before relying on the reward.
Keep evidence until the trip and reward are complete
Save the portal offer, booking confirmation, price breakdown and cancellation policy. Check the account for the booking record, and distinguish a pending or temporary zero amount from a booking that never appeared. Check claim deadlines before waiting for the travel date; a future stay does not extend a submission deadline automatically.
